An evening in Sorrento

We blew in to Sorrento (literally) at about 5:30 and checked in to our hotelHotel Antichemura. We were situated right in the central square the room was  quite large and pleasant with one very large bed and one single bed. It was a little more than the hotel in Pompeii but worth it as we were spending 3 night here. Though we did pay for internet it was so desperately slow that it was impossible to upload pictures for the blog so my plans of writing up each night were thwarted.

The concierge made a reservation at restaurant Filippo they even sent a driver to pick us up, so we were a little nervous that we might be set up for a tourist trap.  But in fact the restaurant was great, good atmosphere and wonderful food.  We started with tuna carpaccio and assorted meats and cheese, and eggplant Parmesan.

Tuna carpaccio
We were all blown away with the tuna carpaccio it was  very fresh and served on a bed of arugula with generous amounts of lemon squeezed on it.  It was probably one the best dishes of the holiday.

Assorted meats
Rather blurry cheese

The assorted meats were all pork related and very tasty, the cheese was the most beautiful mozzarella I have ever tasted, soft and not rubbery and very flavourful.  Sorry about the blurry picture, but I had lost my camera in Pompeii, Jacky's battery had died so we were relying on Candy's IPhone.  Actually it took some very good pictures, but this was the first night and Candy had never really used it for photographs before.

For a main course I ordered veal masala, Candy grilled lamb and Jacky pasta with seafood. unfortunately I do not have any pictures of these as the IPhone was set to movies!  So I have several rather dark and shaky movies of the food.  Any way they were all good, especially the lamb which was large meaty lamb chops grilled to perfection.  My veal was good but a little ordinary.  Jacky loved her pasta and it had a generous amount of assorted seafood on it.

We had a beautiful red wine which none of us could remember the name of, because I would have bought some to come home with if I could.

After the meal there was a complimentary glass of lemoncello a wonderful way to end the meal.
